Fighter Kites - Progress Check No. 18

This week was spent finalizing the last touches with the main character rig. I ran into a block with weight painting and hair rigging, but managed to fix it (with Brett's amazing help)! With the feedback of "no red flags," the excitement of finishing the rig this week settled into place.

My goal was to complete the rig earlier than I planned, which got in the way of my set dressing checkpoint for this week. While it's a little frustrating, I'm glad the rig works smoothly. Now I have to figure out how to block next week for both rendering the updated/blocked animatic AND creating a set dressing asset pack. It will be extra difficult due to the approaching Fall Break and members heading home early, but I'll do my best.


One thing I would like to add to the rig is a keyable strand of hair in the front of her face to incorporate some more secondary movement. I used a rig in the past which had "bucket" hair and the extra motion was helpful in bringing the character to life.


For next week, our group spent some time planning how to block shots to render out - so we're headed in the right direction. Caleb also gave some helpful feedback after testing the rig, but nothing that would add to the time I already allocated to the project.
