With both the Star Wars diorama and the jungle ruins project for Paul's UE class, I found myself struggling to balance my time for the short animatic. Coasting on post-thesis-presentation euphoria, my priorities were the upcoming assignments - especially since they were due a week before the storyboarding.
This is definitely something I need to work on, and I laughed when Jeremy said it doesn't matter how big the project is, college students still find a way to stay up until 4AM. On my part, it is definitely starting earlier and balancing my time weeks in advance. I tend to start grinding out the work right when it begins to feel urgent. Luckily, I have a great judgment of how long it takes me to do certain tasks now (if you asked me a year ago, that would be very different). This way, I can understand how much work a day needs to be done to stay on track.
With the jungle ruins project complete, and my satisfaction with it almost complete, I am ready to concentrate on the animatic and storyboarding for the Fighter Kites thesis. My group decided that SyncSketch was a great resource for us, especially with the illustrated animatic (pre-UE transfer), so that is what I will be referencing for the script. With a script that includes camera angles and shots, it is much faster and easier to transfer into a visual demonstration. Caleb, Aelma, and my goals for today are to concentrate on the technicalities of getting the 3D animatic into Unreal and to establish that before next week. We'd also like to meet with the rest of the team via Zoom on Monday for a spring production scheduling/planning session.
The above is for Paul's Assets for Unreal Engine 5 class, and it was modeled in Maya and Zbrush, textured in Substance Painter, and composited/lit in UE 5.1. Foliage population with Quixel Bridge.
